The Story of ACCBOLD
In the spring of 2006 a sharp young man we had mentored throughout his six-month treatment for a meth addiction enrolled in our Alpha House Discipleship Program. “Hey, you guys,” he said, “When I was on the street, I used to sell used books on line in order to finance my drug habit. Would you like me to show you how?” So in July of ’06, during Justin’s brief stay at Alpha House he helped us get set up in the business we call ACCBOLD! (for AlphaCitiCorps Books On Line Discipleship!).
We started out in our garage with just a few donated books, an out-of-date PC, and a scanner (see top photo on the right). Within a couple of months we outgrew the garage – good thing because winter was just around the corner. Since the fall of ‘06 we have been using donated space and have built the inventory to over 12,000 titles.
We currently provide full-time employment for people in transition. In addition, we have numerous volunteers who come along side and assist us in the training and development of these men. All funds generated by the book program are used to finance and expand the AlphaCitiCorps ministry.
Today Justin is sober and is now reunited with his wife and daughter in Hawaii and they have recently had another child.
